ladders explained

As we approach the end of the Spring season the question of how ladder position is calculated frequently arises. We run a first past the post competition to maximise gametime for all teams, meaning ladder position is key. For those players in the winter competition aged U6 - 12, the "non competitive" ages there is no ladder so for some this is a new concept.

We have chosen to use the same strategy as Football Canterbury "Head to Head". For this strategy the following order is used by dribl to sort teams in the league.

  1. Points

  2. Head to Head - ie who won when tied teams played each other.

  3. Goal Difference when the tied teams played each other.

  4. Goals For, Goals Against,

  5. Games Won.

After 8 rounds the U9 Division 2 league is an extremely tight race for second place, with three teams on 15 points as you can see below.

The teams results when they played each other were tight as well, you can see below that they each won one game and lost another when these three teams played each other. So it comes down to Goals for and Goals against.

The biggest margin in the games was the match between Five Dock Panthers and Concord, which was won by 2 goals, so FDP are rated higher than Concord. Then the Mighty Giants beat FDP meaning that they take second spot.

Of course this may all change after the results this Thursday. Good luck to all three teams. Only two more rounds to go! We look forward to seeing how this league plays out. We love a cliffhanger!
